VP, Hydrogen for Mobility, Eric Guter, on the Bipartisan Hydrogen for Trucks Act

Eric Guter

Recently, U.S. senators introduced a bill that supports adopting hydrogen-powered heavy-duty trucks and the construction of critical infrastructure to support an accelerated adoption of these vehicles, including fueling stations. The bill, known as the Hydrogen for Trucks Act, has bipartisan support in the U.S. Senate and will shortly be introduced in the U.S. House of Representatives, where it has bipartisan support as well.

Air Products applauds Senators Coons and Cornyn on the introduction of this Act because we believe that hydrogen fuel is the future for heavy-duty segments of the transportation market. By offsetting the cost difference between zero-emissions hydrogen-powered trucks and traditional diesel trucks, this legislation aims to incentivize the adoption of hydrogen fuel cell vehicles to accelerate demand growth in end markets.

As the world’s largest hydrogen producer, we are in an excellent position to meet the demands of a growing end-market for hydrogen-powered heavy-duty vehicles. Working across all facets of the hydrogen value chain, Air Products has the unique capability to provide end-to-end solutions for our customers, from production and distribution to storage and dispensing.

Hydrogen is already playing a key role in decarbonizing transportation. In fact, Air Products is leading by example in this transition as we're set to convert our global fleet of 2,000 trucks to hydrogen fuel cell zero-emission vehicles. We welcome the approach of this legislation because we believe that, in conjunction with the solutions we can provide, building end-market demand can quickly accelerate a move toward a cleaner energy future.
