Carbon Dioxide

Remineralisation

Air Products’ Halia® CO2 neutralisation system can be utilised to remineralise drinking water that has been treated with a reverse osmosis process. The reverse osmosis process can remove not only contaminants from the drinking water but also minerals present in the water. The addition of carbon dioxide (CO2) to the drinking water increases the hardness of the water stream and maintains the equilibrium between carbonate, bicarbonate and free carbon dioxide.

Carbon Dioxide

Carbon dioxide is a colourless, odourless, non-flammable and slightly acidic gas. It is used in water and waste water treatment applications for pH control as well as remineralisation of water treated by reverse osmosis. For pH control, the carbon dioxide is a mineral acid substitute which is less susceptible to over-dosing and safer to handle. Carbon dioxide can also be supplied as a cryogenic liquid with a boiling point of -70°F (-57°C).
