Low-Temperature Reactions

Air Products provides liquid nitrogen cooling for chemical reactions which require low or cryogenic temperatures. In fine chemical synthesis, the use of temperatures down to –80ºC or even –100ºC can be beneficial for processes that require selective isomerisation or to enable highly reactive intermediates to exist long enough to produce good yields. Chemistry with highly reactive compounds may also require use of cryogenic temperatures.

Nitrogen

Liquid nitrogen is an extremely effective way to cool down a chemical reaction to temperatures below –148°F (–100°C), helping to enable faster reactions with complete temperature control. Cooling with liquid nitrogen enables safe processing of highly reactive chemistries such as butyllithium or Grignard reactions. Available in medical grade. Our industry specialists can help you determine the optimal supply mode to meet your needs.
