Oxygen

Oxygen is a highly reactive gas and promotes the acid leaching process by improving hydrometallurgical reactions between solids and liquids.  Oxygen can also be used effectively to oxidise impurities and facilitate their removal.  By using oxygen instead of air, the reactions occur more rapidly resulting in less processing time.

A cryogenic air separation plant is used to supply oxygen for iron/steel and non-ferrous metal production. Air Products works closely with the customer to integrate the air separation plant with the metal producers’ process to provide the most energy-efficient and cost-effective design.
