Surface Treatment

Lasers are capable of heating specified areas very rapidly and they are therefore suitable for certain surface heat treatment and surfacing applications. These include laser hardening, alloying and cladding. Laser hardening is the most common method of the laser surface heat treatments up till now. One generally uses a shielding gas to protect the metal from oxidising. Mainly argon or nitrogen is used.
