Lasers are capable of heating specified areas very rapidly and they are therefore suitable for certain surface heat treatment and surfacing applications. These include laser hardening, alloying and cladding. Laser hardening is the most common method of the laser surface heat treatments up till now. One generally uses a shielding gas to protect the metal from oxidising. Mainly argon or nitrogen is used.

BIP® UHP gases | In a plasma spraying process, inert gases are needed as plasma gas and carrier gas (for the powder). Mostly plasma gases are Argon, Helium, Nitrogen and Hydrogen. One individual gas or mixtures can be used. Since high purities are requested (5.0 grades), BIP® cylinders give you the best results and performances. Only Argon & Nitrogen (pure) are used as carrier gases for the powders, and they have the required high purities of 5.0 grades minimum, so if you use a BIP® cylinder, you can't go wrong!
